Equalynx

Established June 12, 2013, Rhodes College EquaLynx is a chapter for LGBT members of the Rhodes community, their friends and supporters. The chapter hosts a reception each year at Homecoming/Reunion Weekend. Check the Homecoming website for details as they become available. If you are interested in participating in the career panel, please contact Katherine Dunbar-Smith ′09, assistant director of Alumni Relations, at dunbar-smithk@rhodes.edu.

Plans are also underway to create a mentoring program that will pair LGBT alumni with LGBT students. If you are interested in participating, please send an e-mail to alumni@rhodes.edu.

Much work has been done on campus to create an inclusive, educational environment for students, faculty and staff. The LGBT Working Group was created to ensure the best educational opportunities are made available to all students. The group also continuously assesses the college′s LGBT policies. In March, the Alumni Association Executive Board voted to amend the Alumni Association by-laws to be as inclusive as possible. "Honorary membership" in the association is now extended to "Non-alumni spouses and partners of alumni." Names of non-alumni spouses are routinely added to the records of our alumni so that both names will appear on mail sent from Rhodes. The Alumni Relations Office would now like to also include the names of partners and spouses of our LGBT alumni. If you wish to add your partner or spouses′ name, please contact the Alumni Relations Office at alumni@rhodes.edu.
