Student Resources

Queer Resource Room

Located in Burrow 106, the Queer Resource Room is a cozy social space for LGBTQ+ students and allies. It contains a large flatscreen television, kitchenette, and comfortable seating for up to 10 people. LGBTQ+ student organizations use the space weekly for their meetings. It is open 24/7 on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Safe Zones

Safe Zones serve as a source of support and information for LGBTQ students, free of judgment and hostility. They display the Safe Zone logo to indicate that they have completed Safe Zone training and have signed a contract expressing their commitment to Safe Zone policies and procedures. Safe Zones are also expected to challenge assumptions and prejudices related to sexual orientation and gender and to address heterosexist comments or behaviors in an educational and informative manner.

Bias Education Response System (BERS)

Use this tool to anonymously report instances of bias-related incidents and microagressive behaviors in the classroom, a residence hall, or anywhere else on campus.

Sex/Gender Discrimination and Sexual Misconduct Policy

This policy addresses all forms of sexual misconduct and gender-based harassment, and covers community members of any gender, gender identity, gender expression, or sexual orientation.  This policy has been developed to reaffirm Rhodes College’s institutional values, define campus community expectations, and to provide for prompt, fair and equitable procedures for determining whether this policy has been violated.

Camp Pride

The mission of the Campus Pride Summer Leadership Camp is to build leadership capacity among LGBTQ and ally undergraduate college student leaders and to create safer and more inclusive campus communities in the United States.

Pride Housing

As needed, LGBTQ students and their allies can elect to form a community and live in a residence hall area set aside for them.

LGBTQ Working Group

The LGBTQ Working Group operates as the umbrella LGBTQ organization on campus and is committed to its mission of continuous assessment of the college’s LGBTQ policies and environment to ensure that Rhodes College offers the broadest possible inclusivity, in keeping with its values and vision.

LGBTQ Peer Connections Program

The LGBTQ Peer Connections Program matches new LGBTQ students (new to Rhodes or the LGBTQ community) to older, established LGBTQ students who can offer support and guidance. This program aims to help students make connections within the LGBTQ community at Rhodes and in the broader Memphis community.
