Rhodes Women’s Golf Team to Receive Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame Award

The 2016 Rhodes College women’s golf team has been selected to receive the 2017 Amateur Team of the Year Award presented by the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame (TSHF). The honor is based on the team’s claiming its second National Championship in 2016. The team also was NCAA Division III National Champions in 2014.

The TSHF features sports figures from various sports including football, basketball, baseball, golf, soccer, rafting, track & field. Mike Clary, women’s golf coach and athletic recruiter, will accept the award on the team’s behalf June 3 at a banquet in Nashville. Rhodes Assistant Coach Sam Kern served as the team’s “on the course” coach during the tournament.

“To be recognized with such an outstanding group of athletes is humbling,” says Clary.  “Congratulations to Sam and our players, and thank you to our parents (current and former), fans and alums on your support of our golf program.  Our success has been achieved with great support from President Troutt and many others in the Rhodes Community.  And to our former players, thank you for establishing the tradition and foundation.”

Rhodes set several records during the 2016 tournament.  The Lynx shot a 294 in round three to break the NCAA tournament record of 296, and Mackenzie Cohen, a 1st team All American, shot a 3-under 69 in the third round to tie the NCAA tournament low round record.

Members of the team include Meg Healy, Pearlissa Harris, Clarice Cannon, Nikki Isaacson, Mackenzie Cohen, Sarahanne Vaughan, Maddie Rhodes, Alexa Calormiris, Melissa Kiker, and Emily Salamy.
