General Description of Position:
This position is for a podcast researcher, writer, and co-host. Lynx to the Past is a podcast that tells stories about the history of Rhodes College. Using the college’s archives and special collections, we try to engage listeners and share the traditions of our institution. The student associate in this position will choose topics they are interested in researching and then prepare that research to be recorded as an episode. Episodes can be heard at https://lynxtothepast.libsyn.com/ The RSA will be responsible for:
Working with Information Services staff to create an entertaining podcast that preserves the story of Rhodes College
- Proposing research topic ideas
- Creating a narrative that answers the research question using archival and primary source materials.
- Working with Rhodes College and other area archivists.
- Interviewing people with connection to or information about the topic.
- Presenting the well-researched story in an engaging way to the podcast host.
- Answering questions regarding their research experience
- Assembling attention-grabbing images and episode descriptions for promotion on social media.
- Editing audio using Audacity to create a seamless and professional product
Minimum Qualifications:
- Previous hands-on historical or archival research or a strong interest in that process
- Ability to use facts and historical context to weave an interesting and compelling narrative
- Excellent writing and storytelling skills a must
- Comfortable speaking on a microphone
- Successful applicants would have a great deal of curiosity and excitement for learning and sharing their knowledge
- Self-motivated, self-starter who is comfortable talking to strangers
- Must be able to work as a strong member of a team and manage deadlines
