How to Apply

Step 1: Know the Deadlines for Programs and Scholarships

Summer Programs

  • Scholarship Applicants: Applications open each December 1. Awards are made on a first-come, first-serve basis.  What’s Due: Both the Scholarship Application and the Off-Campus Study Application. Late or incomplete applications may not be considered.
  • Non-Scholarship Applicants: Deadline February 15.  What’s Due: The Off-Campus Study Application. 

Academic Year and Fall Programs

  • Exchange Applicants: Deadline January 15. What’s Due: the Exchange Program’s Application and the Off-Campus Study Application.
  • Scholarship Applicants: Deadline February 1. What’s Due: Both the Scholarship Application and the Off-Campus Study Application. Late or incomplete applications may not be considered.
  • Non-Scholarship Applicants: Deadline February 15.  What’s Due: The Off-Campus Study Application.

Spring Programs

  • Exchange Applicants: Deadline August 15. What’s Due: the Exchange Program’s Application and the Off-Campus Study Application. 
  • Scholarship Applicants: Deadline October 1. What’s Due: Both the Scholarship Application and the Off-Campus Study Application. Late or incomplete applications may not be considered.
  • Non-Scholarship Applicants: Deadline October 15.  What’s Due: The Off-Campus Study Application.

Please note that many programs accept applications on a rolling basis (this includes Rhodes Summer Programs), and may reach capacity prior to stated deadlines.  Students are encouraged to submit a complete application in advance of deadlines

Step 2: Apply to Study Off-Campus 

  • Log in to the Online Portal for Off-Campus Study Applications  
  • Search for your program
  • Click "Apply Now" to begin your Off-Campus Study Application. Only Click "APPLY NOW" One Time. 
  • Submit any required documents (e.g., course approval forms) and/or deposits to the Buckman Center, Burrow Hall, Lower Level
  • Consider applying for a Rhodes study abroad need-based scholarship or merit-based fellowship

Step 3: Apply to Your Program (only applicatble for Non-Rhodes Programs)

  • Once you have chosen a program, submit your application through that program's home page (e.g., AIFS, API, CIEE, IFSA-BUTLER, etc.)
  • You will need to complete and submit several sections

Step 4: PASSPORTS AND VISAS

Do you need to Apply for, or Renew, your Passport?  

Do you need a visa to study in your Host Country?  

  • Check the Official US Government International Travel Site.  
  • You should ALSO review the Embassy/Consular Site for your Host Country.
  • This can also be a months-long process, and can't begin without both a valid passport and the acceptance to your program.
  • Your program representative should tell you if you need to file applications for things such as Residency Permits.
