Educating Character Initiative Grant
Educating Character at Rhodes College
Service to whom? Loyalty to what? Truth from where?
Living into Rhodes’ Values for the Next Hundred Years
Rhodes College has been awarded a three-year Institutional Impact Grant by the Educating Character Initiative at Wake Forest University for a campus-wide initiative titled Service to whom? Loyalty to what? Truth from where? Living into Rhodes’ Values for the Next Hundred Years. Centering the college’s long-standing motto—Truth, Loyalty, Service—as a focus of inquiry, Rhodes’ character education framework is designed to integrate character formation into classroom pedagogies, residential programming, and community engagement. As Rhodes begins its second hundred years in Memphis, this initiative seeks to align the college’s historical motto with its current values by cultivating habits that prepare undergraduates to meet 21st-century challenges with integrity and purpose: truth supported by curiosity, loyalty supported by courage, and service supported by compassion.
