Information Services - Digital Preservation and Scholarship

 'Digital Project Specialists’ are members of the Instructional Technology team (ITT) in Information Services. DPS student employees support collaborative and interdisciplinary digital projects on campus and maintains DLynx, the Rhodes digital archives. This work includes serving as a liaison to academic departments, preparing digital objects to be uploaded to DLynx, digitizing primary resource materials such as historic newspapers, and researching new and emerging technologies. ‘Digital Projects Specialist’ responsibilities may therefore combine outreach and education with more technical aspects of creating and maintaining digital collections of Rhodes scholarship and historical materials, as well as related tools for using these resources for research and teaching.

 

The primary responsibilities of the students in these positions are project and workflow management and collection and processing of a wide variety of digital assets. Student workers will contribute to other aspects of the project as needed, including (1) technical work (training will be provided) (2) research and data gathering (3) organizational and coordination work. Digital Projects Specialists may work with the Systems Analysts (Systems and Development Team) who will be focused on software development aspects of the projects, or with other members of the ITT, both staff and student employees, in other aspects of Instructional Technology on campus.

 

Digital Assets Specialist Responsibilities Include:

Working with faculty to support digital humanities research.

Preparing and processing collections for upload to DLynx.

Digitizing and processing primary resource collections (interviews, newspapers, letters, etc.) for inclusion in the archive.

Basic office productivity software (MS Office)

Detail and task oriented

 

Desired:

Some experience with or aptitude for one or more of the following: image and/or audiovisual processing and editing (e.g. Photoshop, Premier), website development (Weebly, WordPress), data entry (Excel)

 

All DPS Students will receive training conducted by Rhodes and our partners.
