General Description of Position: 

The Urban Studies Student Assistant will run special projects and programming related to Urban Studies. This position will involve many opportunities for the student worker to find local events and activities of interest to Urban Studies students; to assist with regular programming and events for students, including advertising, help with setup, and attendance at events; and maintaining the Urban Studies web presence, including content creation for the external site and Facebook page. Some minor clerical duties may be required: office supply organization, copying/scanning, assistance in filling out or distributing financial forms and answering student inquiries

Minimum Qualifications

Experience with Microsoft Office suite. Knowledge of social media. Adaptability and timeliness in completing projects. Interest in learning and engaging with the greater Memphis community, including possibilities of off-campus functions

Preferred Qualifications

Ability and willingness to develop a webpage and other digital media material (training will be available). Experience with Urban Studies, high levels of interest in taking Urban Studies courses, or pursuing a major or minor in the program. Experience with service, volunteering, or community engagement and action research

Physical Demands:

The job requires very little manual labor. Occasionally, the student will be asked to move computer equipment, chairs, and/or a projector screen. Ability to lift and maneuver objects up to 20lbs over short distances. This position may require students to sit for extended periods. The student employee may occasionally need to travel around campus to distribute office-related items
