General Description of Position:
The observatory RSA will be responsible for public observatory events and for advertising the observatory within the community. The Associate will also work to maintain and test observatory equipment and to help develop instructional materials for using the observatory in the department's curriculum. The Associate will also perform a variety of tasks to support the physics curriculum and program in general. These tasks may include: serving as a lab assistant or peer tutor, maintaining teaching laboratory equipment, developing new teaching laboratory experiments, sorting and repairing lecture demonstrations, etc.
Minimum Qualifications
Have successfully completed Physics 211 and 213.
Preferred Qualifications
A junior or senior physics major with excellent laboratory skills, good communication skills, the ability to work independently, and a level of maturity that will ensure tasks are completed in a timely manner.
Physical Demands: any heavy lifting, moving heavy objects, or long periods of sitting or standing. Make sure your job description is as ADA friendly as possible. Does your job require maneuvering of stairs or other unique physical requirements?
Physics RSAPs work with physics laboratory equipment, which varies in weight and maneuverability. If a student in the position has difficulty with certain duties, the duties will be restructured.
