The Welcome Week Student Director serves as a lead student within the Office of Student Transitions, playing a central role in shaping and executing the Welcome Week experience at Rhodes College. This position works closely with professional staff to support the planning and implementation of Welcome Week and to help design and facilitate Peer Assistant (PA) training.
The Student Director helps ensure that Welcome Week is organized, engaging, and aligned with the goals of student connection, belonging, and successful transition. This role also provides leadership and support to Peer Assistants, helping them feel prepared and confident in their role as student leaders.
Responsibilities:
Fulfill all responsibilities of the Peer Assistant role, including supporting a small group of new students throughout Welcome Week
Partner with professional staff to plan and implement Welcome Week programming and logistics
Assist in the design and facilitation of Peer Assistant (PA) training, including leading sessions and supporting group activities
Assist in supervising Peer Assistants during training and Welcome Week, including helping reinforce expectations and addressing challenges as they arise
Serve as a leader and role-model for the PA team by providing guidance, support, and real-time problem-solving
Help coordinate Welcome Week schedules, materials, and communications to ensure a smooth and organized experience
Provide on-site leadership during Welcome Week, including event oversight, troubleshooting, and supporting campus partners
Model inclusive leadership and community-building practices for Peer Assistants and new students
Contribute to assessment and ongoing improvement of transition programs including Welcome Week, PA Training, and the PA Program.
Assist answering phone calls and responding to email inquiries from incoming students and their parents
Requirements:
At least one year of experience as a Peer Assistant is preferred
Demonstrated leadership experience at Rhodes, preferably within orientation, transitions, or student leadership roles
Strong organizational and project management skills
Ability to lead and facilitate small and large groups
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to remain flexible and problem-solve in a fast-paced, high-energy environment
Commitment to creating inclusive and welcoming environments for all students
Ability to take initiative and work collaboratively with staff and student leaders
Full availability for PA training, Incoming Student Move-in, and Welcome Week, August 7 – 18.
- Reliability, professionalism, and a strong sense of accountability
- At least Sophomore status with a 2.75 GPA
- Ability to be creative, attentive to detail, organized and work independently
- Experience with project coordination, organization, and development
- Ability to work productively and professionally with faculty, staff and students
Work as a full-time summer student worker with hours set and approved by the Office of Student Transitions
Must have no other major commitment, internships, on/off-campus jobs, or activities that interfere with this position during summer 2026 and the 2026 orientation cycle (ACCESS Orientation and Welcome Week)
Intern Logistics and Pay:
You will have 14 days of vacation time coordinated and approved by the Office of Student Transitions
You will clock in and out in Workday. The rate of pay is $10.25, before taxes.
On-campus housing, in a single room, will be provided at no cost to you.
