Change can be hard, and Rhodes is seeing a lot of change these days. But it does seem that we are sending mixed messages to our colleagues. We are having to tighten the belts due to various factors, but we insist on having a "Holiday Brunch" in December. Even if Bon Apetit could give Rhodes a 50% discount, the cost of feeding possibly over 300 people has to be in the thousands of dollars. Then there might be a singing group or a band to play holiday tunes...at what cost? What else could be done with this money? Is this program really boosting morale? Most people are exhausted by the end of the fall semester, and this is one more thing that we have to do. Rethinking the "Holiday Brunch" should really be looked at. The end of the academic year Brunch makes more sense. Celebrating the accomplishments of the entire year is needed. Do we all need gifts in May at the Brunch? Probably not...but it is a nice touch. Thank you for serving on this committee. We h ave needed this for a long time. The Holiday Brunch was changed to a Holiday Gathering in December of 2025. Food quantity was significantly reduced, and the College saved money. Human Resources and RSAC partnered together for creativity. The event had gift donations for raffle, trivia, and a staff volunteer who DJed. HR & RSAC received positive feedback about the event.
It is so dangerous to ALL of us that Department of Homeland Security was allowed on campus. Please communicate to the President's Office that plenty of staff do not want ICE or DHS or any federal agents on our campus. The gate is apparently only keeping out prospective students and families and neighbors, not the very people who could destroy our colleagues' lives. Thank you. The President notified the campus of protocols.
Has anyone considered bringing perks into the Rhodes benefits package? There are multiple possibilities that won't be horribly cost prohibitive for the college like discounts at Jeremiah's Italian Ice. They have offered to the college but know one would know that. We should have a compiled list, easily accessible, of perks. Discounts on car rentals, implementing discounts on fitness centers or partnerships at the Zoo etc. In 2025, the Rhodes Diehl website launched, offering a variety of deals around the Memphis community. If you know of any perks being offered to Rhodes or have any recommendations, please email contactrsac@rhodes.edu .
