Job Description
The RSA position for Student Accessibility Services (SAS) will gain valuable project management skills and insight into disability-related issues (e.g., specific disability types and issues, ADA/504 compliance, advocacy), which would be beneficial for students interested in careers in education, psychology, social work, counseling, medicine, communications, law, and more.
Responsibilities
- Assist with marketing SAS resources (e.g., ADHD/executive function coaching, assistive technology, access barrier reporting, etc.).
- Assist with content development and updates for SAS websites, publications, and social media.
- Manage college Report an Access Barrier form submissions.
- Perform weekly supply checks for the Barret Library Testing Room (SAS distraction-limited accommodations testing space).
Assist with internal facilities accessibility review of campus. Review Department of Justice Checklist for ADA Compliance Checklist for Existing Facilities for appropriateness to Rhodes and assist with completing checklist as needed.
Serve as SAS liaison to disability-related student organizations to assist in promotion of their programs and events.
- Learn assistive technology resources used in creating alternative formats (e.g., Anthology Ally in Canvas, Adobe Acrobat Pro) and train students to use them as needed.
- Assist with the provision of alternative format accommodations (e.g., tactile images, Braille, digital formats for text-to-speech software, audio described videos, closed captioning, transcriptions for multimedia content), as needed. Communicate with faculty, staff, and approved students with disabilities about required course materials, availability of accessible formats, and conversion timelines.
- Assist the Director with SAS assessments, projects, and researching various access topics as needed.
- Complete regular supervision meetings to discuss progress on assigned projects.
Necessary Qualifications
- Interest in disability access and inclusion issues.
- Prior experience with event planning and marketing.
- Strong attention to detail, excellent skills with writing, organization, and communication.
- Ability to manage projects and meet deadlines successfully and independently.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and use discretion in working with sensitive information.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Canva.
- Willingness to learn assistive technology resources used for creating accessible alternative format materials.
- Punctual, responsible, and reliable.
