General Description of Position:

 

Primary:            Process, catalog, and analyze materials from excavations related to the Archaeology Program.
                          Help develop and/or maintain databases for archaeological material.
                          Set up and help maintain lab space for excavated material and document archives.
                          Conduct research related to excavation data and artifacts from multiple sites.
                          Digitize and process archaeological maps, illustrations, and photos.
Occasional:       Assist faculty in accessing relevant data and photos for research and classroom use.
                          Order supplies for the archaeology lab.
                          Scan and copy documents, maps, and photographs.

Minimum Qualifications

 

Willingness to learn and work with relevant software related to cataloguing, illustration, photo editing, databases, and basic GIS programs. Ability to do data entry, and help maintain databases for excavated material. Interest in archaeological methods and labwork.

Preferred Qualifications

 

The Student Associate will learn many aspects of archaeological research and will work on processing artifacts and data from sites where Rhodes faculty are excavating. Familiarity with Mac platform computers is helpful and basic knowledge of either Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, FileMaker Pro, or GIS software would be a bonus — but these and all other skills will be taught on the job.

Physical Demands:

 

Lifting boxes of artifacts and documents, using computers.
