The RSA for the Core labs needs to meet the minimum qualifications above and preferably have been an outstanding TA. At present, every Core Lab RSA hired in the past has been a TA for the Core Labs at least one year. I expect the RSA to have taken an upper division biology lab, such as the biochemistry-molecular biology lab, BMB, the genetics lab or the microbiology lab. It is essential that the RSA has familiarized himself/herself with the location of Core lab supplies and be able to use common lab instruments such as a microcentrifuge, autoclave, balance, pH meter qualities usually found in a junior or senior biology student. I hire the RSA based on their leadership skills, grades and maturity in the lab.
