General Description of Position:

This position serves as a liaison for Career Services with students and employers. The Internship Coordinator works closely with the Director of Career Services to ensure that the academic internship program is current and responsive to students’ interests and needs. The RSA in this position meets with students and employers to facilitate internship participation. In addition, the RSA develops reports and look for trends to help our program grow and remain relevant. The RSA also gathers information on paid internship opportunities and create tools to share this information with the campus community.

Internship Coordinator RSA responsibilities:
•             Meet with students interested in securing an internship; this responsibility is currently met by the Career Services staff but the RSA could meet with students who have logistical questions or need more immediate assistance.
•             Contact employers on an annual basis to update internship listings and answer questions.
•             Record and respond to community members interested in participating in the internship program providing information on how the Rhodes program works and helping them to complete needed paperwork.
•             Create handouts for students going through the internship process to help with interviewing, communication etiquette, and how to make the most out of the internship experience.
•             Develop a system to collect information from students on their paid internship experiences.
•             Help to identify leads for new internships in areas where we may not have enough internship opportunities; for example, the Computer Science and Math department are very interested in creating more internships for their students.
•             Create/update internship promotion materials that could be used for Admission programs or individual department meetings.
•             Collect evaluations from employers and students at the end of each semester (often requires follow-up) and generate reports.

Additional tasks:
Help with Grad School Expo, Coordinate a summer internship contest to gather more data, Assist with international intern programs

Minimum Qualifications

 

•             Strong attention to detail.
•             Very comfortable meeting with students in an advising capacity.
•             Good written communication skills for sending emails to students and employers.
•             Good verbal skills for talking with employers over the phone.
•             Professionalism.
