Summer Employment - Music Assistant

General Description of Position:

Music Department assistants provide support in a number of areas: Greeting office visitors, whether in person or by phone, relaying messages, making copies as needed, assisting with office tasks such as typing programs, filing, and stamping and processing newly purchased music. Assistants also set up classroom and performance spaces for classes, rehearsals, and performances. Periodically, they may assist with ushering, stage managing and ticket sales for recitals and concerts. FOR SUMMER EMPLOYEES: Music Department Assistants are asked to help with inventory of musical equipment, they assist in any special summer time projects such as reorganizing music files or studios/office space in Hassell Hall or West Campus Music. They are the key holders to the music spaces during the summer months.

Minimum Qualifications:

Basic knowledge of Microsoft Word is needed; it helps if students are familiar with Excel as well. Employees need to be flexible and willing to assist in a wide variety of tasks.

Preferred Qualifications:

It is preferable for student employees to have some prior office experience or other experience working with the public. It is also helpful if the student has a musical background and experience with event planning. However, prior experience is not required.

Physical Demands:

Student employees set up classrooms and the performance hall for classes and rehearsals. This includes moving music stands, chairs, tables and large instruments. Students may also be asked to help transport and set up equipment in other spaces on campus for performances.
