Job Description

Digital Assets Specialist work with the Digital Preservation and Scholarship team in Information Services on digital projects. These include projects emanating from the College Archives as well as Memphis Center programs such as the Crossroads the Freedom Digital Archive and Curb Institute projects. Digital Assets Specialist responsibilities may combine community outreach and education with more technical aspects of creating and maintaining a digital library of primary resources and related tools for using these resources for teaching and learning.

The primary responsibilities of the students in these positions are project and workflow management and collection and processing of a wide variety of digital assets. Student workers will contribute to other aspects of the project as needed, including (1) technical work (training will be provided) (2) research and data gathering (including participating in interviews) (3) organizational and coordination work. Digital Assets specialists may work with the Systems Analysts (Systems and Development Team) who will be focused on software development aspects of the projects.

Digital Assets Specialist responsibilities include:
• Digitizing and processing primary resource collections (interviews, newspapers, letters, etc.) for inclusion in the archive. This includes scanning, mark-up and creating metadata. (training provided).
• Preparing and processing select collections from partner institutions.
• Possibly conducting interviews and processing these interviews for inclusion in the digital archive.
• Ongoing refinement of social media strategies that connect community members with archive materials.
• Potential to work with high school students gathering oral histories from their communities

Required Education

Continuing student at Rhodes College.

Required Qualifications  
Preferred Qualifications

• Demonstrated organizational, teamwork and communication skills
• Basic office productivity software (MS Office)
• Detail and task oriented

Scanning experience
Some experience with or aptitude for one or more of the following: image and/or audiovisual processing and editing (e.g. Photoshop, Premire), text-encoding (e.g. HTML), transcription experience, interview experience
