Your Financial Aid Package From Rhodes
The Portability of Financial Aid Chart (PDF) outlines what type of aid may be applied to what program or what type of program.
- Campus-Based Title IV Aid: Financial aid granted by Rhodes may be applied to the Rhodes European Studies program, ISEP semester or year-long exchanges, and all Rhodes bilateral exchange programs.
- Non-Campus-Based Title IV Aid: This type of aid may be applied to any semester- or year-long program off-campus.
Applying Your Financial Aid to Study Abroad Programs
In order to apply any eligible aid/awards to an off-campus program, complete a Consortium Agreement (located within the Off-Campus Study Application in the Post-Decision Phase within your Online Portal). If using your scholarships/funds creates a credit balance on your Rhodes student account, you may either:
- Request a check for the extra amount, or
- Request that Rhodes use that amount to pay a portion or all of your programmatic invoice. If you opt for this, forward your invoice to the Bursar, Richard Huddleston (huddleston@rhodes.edu or by fax: 901-843-3435). He will pay the portion of the invoice which your existing or anticipated credit balance will allow.
- Students on the Rhodes program "European Studies" or on Exchange programs (see link to the left to check if your program is an exchange) do NOT need to file the Consortium Agreement.
Scholarships and Buckman Fellowship:
Summer Scholarship Application deadline is December 1!
- Students with need are urged to apply early, before the Summer Scholarship Application closes on December 1.
- Need based award amounts will vary, based on each student's individual FAFSA report. Some awards may cover as much as 100% of the program cost, though most applicants will receive less than that.
- Students who applied for, but were not awarded, need-based scholarships may withdraw their Off-Campus Study Application for a Rhodes Summer Program BY JANUARY15. Following January 15, Rhodes′ "Program Fees and Billing" Policy and Rhodes′ "Cancellation and Refund" Policy will apply. Follow this link to review our Policies.
- Any scholarship offered is contingent upon acceptance to and participation in a program from the Recognized Program/Providers List.
For SEMESTER Programs:
Scholarship and Fellowship applications for fall or academic-year programs are due February 15.
Scholarship and Fellowship applications for spring programs are due October 15.

CLS: Critical Language Scholarships
Sponsored by the US Department of State and the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, this program offers intensive summer language learning overseas in critical need foreign languages.
Bridging Scholarships for Study Abroad in Japan
The Bridging Project offers 100 scholarships annually to American undergraduate students participating in semester- or year-long study abroad programs in Japan.
Gilman International Scholarship Program
This program serves under-represented populations in study abroad, including but not limited to: high financial need, under-represented fields, diverse ethnic backgrounds, and students with disabilities.

DAAD: German Academic Exchange Service
The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) supports international academic cooperation and invites highly qualified undergraduates to apply for scholarships for study, research and/or internships in Germany.
Thomas R. Pickering Undergraduate Foreign Affairs Fellowship
This program provides funding to participants as they prepare academically and professionally to enter the United States Department of State Foreign Service. Women, members of minority groups historically underrepresented in the Foreign Service, and students with financial need are encouraged to apply. They recruit talented students in academic programs relevant to international affairs, political and economic analysis, administration, management, and science policy. The goal is to attract outstanding students from all ethnic, racial, and social backgrounds who have an interest in pursuing a Foreign Service career in the U.S. Department of State.
Fund for Education Abroad (FEA)
FEA will award funds for students planning to study abroad on any academically rigorous program. Scholarships meet the financial needs of students who might not be eligible for government grants or other funds.
International Students and Study Abroad Scholarships
International students are able to compete for the merit-based Buckman Fellowship, provided they meet the same eligibility requirements as US students. You may read more about this fellowship on the link above.
Need-based scholarships are limited for international students. Aid is awarded in the form of grants or “gift" aid, which varies in dollar amounts according to each student’s demonstrated financial need. Only international students who are unable to meet programmatic costs should apply for need-based study abroad scholarships.
