Topics in Art: Art and Science Studio

Spring 2021

This course was designed to create an interdisciplinary opportunity for students to blend the disciplines of Studio Art and Science. The projects prompted students to explore themes, concepts, and processes from the Natural Sciences using a variety of artistic techniques, processes, and materials ranging from block printing to illustration and more. Each new art project paired a theme from the sciences with a different artistic process. As the semester progressed, the themes and artistic media became more encompassing and expansive from direct observation drawing to conceptual proposals for improbable sculptures. In each unit of the course, students found unique ways to expand their personal experiences and interests in the sciences into works of art based on research in both fields.
