Clough-Hanson Gallery at Rhodes College is very excited to announce an exhibition by Nashville artist Chris Scarborough.
Chris Scarborough: Living on Cloud Nine will run from March 2 through April 4, 2007. The gallery will be closed from March 13 through March 19, 2007 for spring break.
The artist will present a lecture on his work in Blount Auditorium in Buckman Hall on Wednesday, February 28th at 7 p.m. (Please note the lecture is on a Wednesday rather than the usual Thursday.)
The reception for the show will be held in the gallery from 6 - 8 p.m., Friday March 2, 2007.
Chris Scarborough: Living on Cloud Nine will present a collection of eleven recent drawings and digitally altered photographs. The striking images involve intricate detail, inch by inch, pixel by pixel the artist distorts and reconstructs his subjects’ faces and bodies according to the tropes of Japanese anime as a way of exploring cultural ideas of power, cuteness, beauty and perfection. These subtle changes in features dramatically change the way we as viewers relate to the subjects. The audience has to negotiate the tricky space between what is real and what is false.
Chris Scarborough is a Nashville native who received his BFA from SCAD in Savannah, GA in 2000. Exhibiting regionally since 2000, Scarborough has received reviews and been included in such surveys as ArtPapers (2005), The Red Clay Survey, 2005 (catalog), New American Paintings in 2004 as well as in 2001. In the last year he has had one person shows at Gescheidle in Chicago as well as Marcia Wood in Atlanta. He shows often at Zeitgeist and TAG galleries in Nashville and was included in The Fragile Species: New Art Nashville at the Frist Center For the Visual Arts. He has had solo shows in Chicago, IL, Charlottesville, VA, New Orleans, LA, and Jacksonville, FL.
