Rhodes College recognizes the importance of service and emotional support animals to individuals with disabilities and has established the Animals on Campus Policy which outlines requirements and guidelines concerning the presence of such animals on campus.
To Request an Animal Accommodation
Students requesting to keep a service or emotional support animal in the residence halls must complete the following steps and receive SAS approval before bringing an animal to campus.
- Complete the SAS Accommodation Request Process after reviewing the Animals on Campus Policy.
- Once approved, complete the Approved Animals on Campus Student Form.
Key Dates and Details
- Continuing students should complete the SAS accommodation request process by February 15. Continuing students who are approved only for a service animal or emotional support animal accommodation will complete the regular room selection process to select their desired location with a roommate and/or suitemates who agree to live with their animal.
- New students should complete the SAS accommodation request process by June 15. Residence Life makes housing assignments at the beginning of the year with approved animals in mind to ensure that an assistance animal does not interfere with other students who may have animal allergies or aversions.
- While requests for service and emotional support animals outside of these preferred dates will still be accepted and considered, Rhodes cannot guarantee that it will be able to meet the late applicant's accommodation needs until the following academic term.
