Alex Does
My name is Alex, and I'm a junior majoring in Political Science and planning to double minor in Chinese Studies and Creative Writing. I'm super passionate about writing, both academically and creatively, and America's political system. A few courses I've taken are PLAW151, INTS120, PPE110, and CHIN101-202. My philosophy on peer academic coaching is that studying doesn't have to be stressful, boring, or exhausting, and you can be relaxed while mastering content (even if it's a course you really don't like!). Planning in advance and giving yourself a break during hard times can always be better than an all-nighter. I would love to help you maintain a healthy school-life balance so that you meet your academic goals while minimizing stress. Schedule an appointment with me.
Alyssa Kim
Hi! My name is Alyssa, and I am a sophomore from Cincinnati, OH, pursuing a Chemistry major and a Russian minor. During my first year, I took ANSO 105, CHEM 120 (+ the lab), HUM 101+102, RUSS 101+102, and CHEM 211. Besides academics on campus this semester, I'm also an RA, a TA (for CHEM 120), a lynx and alumni ambassador, secretary for the Russian and GenAction club, and a student employee within the IT department. Since coming to college, I have learned the best way for me to take in, understand, and organize materials without it being overwhelming, and I want to help you find the best method for you as well! I believe trying out different methods of studying/organization is a great way to find out how you thrive, and I'm dedicated to helping you find your best self. Schedule an appointment with me.
Chris Karohl
Hello, my name is Christopher, and I am from Houston, Texas. I am a senior biochemistry and molecular biology major. Additionally, I am on the pre-med track and have taken courses such as BIOL 130, 131, 140, 141, 307, 325, CHEM 120, 125, 211, 212, 240, 315 and MATH 122. At my time at Rhodes thus far, I have gained experience managing a busy schedule filled with academics, involvement in clubs and extracurriculars, and being a residential assistant. Through these activities, I have gained invaluable knowledge on how to structure my weekly schedule so that I never miss out on academic events and still have plenty of time on the weekends to hang out with friends. As a pre-med student, I understand the stress imposed upon us due to our academic track and the impending MCAT and Med-School applications. I hope I can help alleviate some of it by assisting you in planning out your weeks and making the immense workload appear less daunting and more manageable. In addition to preparing for large-scale projects such as taking on the MCAT, I look forward to collaborating with you to tackle and succeed at day-to-day assignments. See you soon! Clara Park
Hi! I’m Clara, a junior from Little Rock, AR, majoring in neuroscience and minoring in health equity on the pre-MD/PhD track. I have taken major STEM courses for my major and medical school preparation, which includes biology (130/131, 140/141), chemistry (120/125, 211, 212/212L), physics (111/113, 112/114), psychology (150, 211, 327), and NEURO270. Additionally, I have also taken SEARCH courses, PHIL343, and HLEQ210. My college experience has involved balancing multiple commitments, such as clinical research projects, undergraduate neuroscience research in the Biology Department, volunteering, multiple student organizations, and other extracurricular activities. Through research, I also manage several long-term research projects as the first author, which involves literature reviews and manuscript drafting, so I understand the importance of planning, organization, and sustained motivation for both daily assignments and larger goals. As a PAC and the ALR RSA, I’m passionate about helping students with time management, study strategies, organization, exam preparation, STEM/pre-health coursework, and balancing academics with extracurriculars. My coaching philosophy centers on helping students recognize their strengths, set clear priorities, and turn overwhelming goals into manageable steps. Whether you’re preparing for a challenging course, managing a busy schedule, working on a long-term project, or rebuilding confidence after a setback, I’d be excited to support you! I am a business major with a minor in Spanish, having completed coursework including ECON 100, BUS 240, SPAN 201, and SPAN 202, as well as RELS, FYS, and INTS 110. Understanding the struggles of attaining a manageable work-life balance, I would like to help others achieve a balance. I would love to help you identify the strategies that work best for you! Jason Steinfeld
I’m Jason. This is my second year at Rhodes, and I intend to graduate in 2028 with a Politics, Philosophy, and Economics degree. I think stress-fueled, neurotic studying is the worst and passionate, purposeful learning is the best. I’m a peer academic coach because I’d like to steer myself and others towards the latter and away from the former. Opportunities for joyful, meaningful learning are abundant, but often obscured by obligations, expectations, performance anxieties, and the like—knowing how to work past these obstacles is crucial for quality learning, but not intuitive. When we meet, we will work with evidence-based study methods to design tailor-made learning strategies and systems that suit your schedule and style. Ideally, we will create learning habits that better equip you to overcome the common obstacles to joyful learning and prevent stressful academic scenarios. I have taken PHIL 221, ENGL 255, INTS 120, PPE 110, FYWS 151, and HUM 101/102; the coursework for these classes is almost exclusively essays, short papers, and other writing-based assignments, so I am most comfortable helping others develop good writing and research habits. I can also suggest some strategies for how to best utilize discussions and lectures to strengthen the quality of your writing assignments. While I am most comfortable offering advice on writing and related assignments, I’d be happy to work with you on whatever coursework or other academic problems you're having—if we decide that another PAC or campus resource is better equipped to help solve your problem, I will happily connect you with that resource. Schedule an appointment with me.
Olivia McCarver
I’m a senior Political Science major with a Concentration in Law and a Music minor! I’m also a Day scholar, in Greek life, and am involved in the Music department and student orgs such as RTG. Since I’m a Political Science major, a lot of the study skills I’ve accumulated have been related to research, blocking out time for reading and studying current events, as well as working on ways to pace my writing. One of the most important skills I think is necessary in a field that requires a lot of heavy reading materials, research, and writing is practicing how to write efficiently and concisely. I can definitely help out when it comes to blocking out time for long-term research or building long-term skills for researching. When it comes to academics, I’ve found that blocking out time and doing things in small chunks really helps, especially with work-heavy, long-term assignments. Schedule an appointment with me.
Ryan Thorn
Hello, my name is Ryan Thorn, and I am from Charlotte, North Carolina. I am a junior majoring in International Studies with minors in Spanish and Economics, and I am currently on the pre-law track. Throughout my time at Rhodes, I have been heavily involved both academically and across campus organizations. I am a Posse Scholar, a member of Mock Trial, Treasurer for the Soccer Club and Yoga Club, President of the Pickleball Club, and a member of Just City Advocates. I also serve as a Peer Assistant Leader (PA), where I work with students as they adjust to college life and develop successful academic and personal habits. I have taken courses such as INTS 110, INTS 201, INTS 210, INTS 310, INTS 423, ECON 100, ECON 202, ECON 290, SPAN 102, SPAN 201, and SPAN 202. Through these classes, I have strengthened my writing, analytical thinking, communication, and time management skills. Balancing challenging coursework alongside leadership positions and extracurricular involvement has taught me how to effectively structure my schedule and stay organized while still making time for friends, campus events, and personal interests. As someone balancing academics, leadership, career preparation, and extracurricular activities, I understand how stressful and overwhelming college can feel at times. I hope I can help make that experience more manageable by assisting students with organization, planning, study strategies, and adjusting to life at Rhodes. Whether it is preparing for assignments, managing a busy schedule, or simply finding balance, I look forward to working with you and helping you succeed. See you soon! Saad Ahmed
Hi everyone! My name is Saad and I’m a sophomore from Pakistan. I intend to major in PPE along with a minor in music. Some of the courses I’ve taken and know my way around are: PPE 110, ECON 100, INTS 120, INTS 235, MUSC 103, MUSC 222, and a bunch of music lessons! Additionally, I also spent the past summer at Rhodes with the Institute of Regional Studies conducting research into the American South’s cotton economy prior to the Civil War and how it can be explained through Marxian Economics. Hence, I’d be more than happy to chat about long research projects and papers. Apart from this, I serve as an RA for my Residence Hall, and work at the Barrett Library Help Desk in case you want to drop by. I absolutely love organizing things, rooms, thoughts, calendars, coming up with systems to eliminate friction from day-to-day tasks, tracking progress, and trying to become better one day at a time. Together, I’d love to figure out habits, plans, and systems catered to the way you function best! Schedule an appointment with me.
Samaha Khan
I am a junior at Rhodes College majoring in Physics with a minor in Computer Science. I am passionate about helping students develop effective time-management and study strategies, overcome procrastination, and stay motivated through challenging periods of the semester. I feel confident in coaching students in Calculus I–III, introductory Physics, Programming, Discrete Mathematics, Data Structures and Algorithms, and Computer Organization. My coaching focuses not on simply providing answers, but on helping students develop the skills, strategies, and confidence to approach their coursework independently. I believe that facing challenges can be a sign that our efforts are leading to growth. When college becomes difficult, we don’t have to face those challenges alone. I want to help students navigate those challenges, find strategies that work for them, and keep moving forward. Schedule an appointment with me.
Sunay Srivastava
Hello, my name is Sunay Srivastava, and I am a senior majoring in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology with a minor in Spanish. As a pre-med student, I have taken a wide variety of science courses, including BIOL 130, BIOL 140, BIOL 307, BIOL 325, CHEM 120, CHEM 211, CHEM 212, CHEM 240, CHEM 315, and BMB 310. I have also completed SPAN 302, SPAN 306, and SPAN 311, as well as courses such as PSYC 150, PSYC 211, HLEQ 210, and HUM 201. Through balancing coursework with MCAT studying, research, internships, tutoring, and other extracurricular activities, I have developed study strategies that have helped me succeed in challenging classes while managing a busy schedule. I understand how difficult it can be to juggle multiple responsibilities while still finding time to learn effectively and avoid burnout. Because of my own experiences, I am particularly passionate about helping students with time management, organization, and study strategies, as these are areas in which I have grown the most throughout college. My approach to academic coaching is collaborative and individualized. I believe that many students already have the ability to succeed but may need support identifying study habits, planning strategies, or learning techniques that work best for them. Rather than telling students what to do, I hope to help them reflect on their current approach, identify what is and is not working, and develop strategies that fit their goals and learning style. Whether you are trying to stay organized, prepare for exams, manage a heavy workload, or simply feel less overwhelmed by your responsibilities, I would be happy to work with you. I look forward to helping you achieve your academic goals and making the most of your time at Rhodes! Schedule an appointment with me.
Zaine Chamseddine
My name is Zaine, and I am a sophomore majoring in International Studies and Economics with a minor in Political Science. I have taken courses such as INTS 110, INTS 120, PLAW 151, INTS 133, ECON 100, ECON 202, RELS 101-102, and FYWS. As an international student from Brazil, a large part of my college experience has been learning how to adapt quickly to new academic expectations while balancing a demanding schedule and multiple commitments. Through my work reviewing application documents for one of Brazil’s largest college admissions prep programs and mentoring students preparing for Model UN conferences, I developed strong organizational and time-management skills, especially when it comes to helping students break overwhelming workloads into more manageable and realistic steps. On campus, I am involved with Model UN, RUF, and the International Students Association, and my approach to academic coaching is centered on helping students experiment with different tools, routines, and strategies to better understand what works best for their individual learning styles, priorities, and schedules. I hope I can help you feel more confident managing your workload, balancing your commitments, and finding academic habits that make college feel more manageable and less overwhelming.
