Meet the 2025-26 Peer Academic Coaches

Jackie Boyanchek
Hello! My name is Jackie, and I am a senior from Columbus, GA majoring in Neuroscience and minoring in Religious Studies and French on the pre-med track. As a pre-med STEM major, I have taken all of the recommended "pre-health" courses, so Intro Chem, Bio I & II, Organic Chem I & II, Statistics, Psychology, etc. I was also a chemistry tutor, so I have a solid perspective on how to study for those types of classes. I have also taken many French, Religious Studies, and other humanities classes to ensure a blend of course disciplines in my schedule. Being active in multiple on and off-campus commitments such as Lynx Ambassadors, acapella, Greek life, and volunteering, I've had lots of experience juggling academics and personal life and learning how to prioritize. Like anyone, I have had to overcome many challenges in my academic career thus far, but I have come up with helpful strategies and solutions that make each new challenge easier to conquer. I would love to help you discover what strategies work best for you!

I have taken mostly courses in Philosophy, Economics, and Religious Studies, including PPE 110, PHIL 105, 200, 225, and 301, ECON 100, 202, 290, and 323, RELS 101-102 and 258. I have also taken INTS 110 and SPAN 201. I enjoy working through dense, complex texts, whether they be old religious texts or political theory. Through committing myself to a variety of on and off-campus organizations as well as my involvement in the Bonner program, I have learned how to organize my schedule and study effectively, so I am able to spend time on all my different interests. I also studied abroad in the spring of 2024, so I understand how stressful managing your time can be while you're also preparing to leave the country. Additionally, I am the Rhodes Student Associate for the Academic and Learning Resources Office, so I have lots to share about the resources and programs we offer that could be useful to you. I would love to help you figure out how to work more efficiently through what you are obligated to do so you can spend more time doing the things you love! :)

Chris Karohl
Hello, my name is Christopher, and I am from Houston, Texas. I am a Junior majoring in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. Additionally, I am on the pre-med track and have taken courses such as BIOL 130, BIOL 140, MATH 122, MATH 211, ANSO 103, PHYS 109, PHYS 110, CHEM 120, and CHEM 211. As a result of taking many different classes, I have built up superb study skills which I can pass on to anyone who needs them. At my time at Rhodes thus far, I have gained experience managing a busy schedule filled with academics, involvement in clubs and extracurriculars, and being a residential assistant. Through these activities, I have gained invaluable knowledge on how to structure my weekly schedule so that I never miss out on academic events and still have plenty of time on the weekends to hang out with friends. As a pre-med student, I understand the stress imposed upon us due to our academic track and the impending MCAT and Med-School applications. I hope I can help alleviate some of it by assisting you in planning out your weeks and making the immense workload appear less daunting and more manageable. In addition to preparing for large-scale projects such as taking on the MCAT, I look forward to collaborating with you to tackle and succeed at day-to-day assignments. See you soon!

Ella Luking
My name is Ella, and I am a junior majoring in physics and minoring in Spanish. Additionally, I am completing the Rhodes Pre-Engineering Certificate. I have taken multiple classes in physics, math, and those with lab components, so I am most confident helping students succeed in those areas. When it comes to coaching, I am passionate about helping students be as efficient as possible, so they can study less with better results. A large part of this is understanding what elements of a student’s environment and study routines have the greatest impact on their success.

Olivia McCarver
My name is Olivia, a Political Science major and Music minor, and I’m a junior! I’m a Day scholar, in Greek life, and am also involved in the Music department and student orgs such as RTG. I’ve also had tutored off and on and have a lot of experience in helping students organize their work. A huge chunk of my major is researching articles, policies, and cases, and summarizing complex political issues in short spurts, so I’ve had to learn to be able to shave down my writing. One of the most important skills I think is necessary in a field that requires a lot of heavy reading materials, research, and writing is practicing how to write efficiently and concisely. I can definitely help when it comes to blocking out time, especially for semester long projects, or building long-term skills for researching. I’ve found that blocking out time and doing things in small chunks really helps, especially with work-heavy assignments. No one study style is a fit-all, and the best way to figure out what works for you is what you find most rewarding!

Clara Park
I’m a sophomore pursuing a neuroscience major and health equity minor, while preparing for an MD/PhD program post-graduation. I have a strong affinity for science, excelling in courses including BIOL130/131, BIOL140/141, CHEM120/125, PSYC150, NEURO270, and HLEQ210. I also greatly enjoy the humanities, successfully engaging in SEARCH coursework. My college journey involves balancing multiple pre-med related extracurricular activities, spearheading several clinical research projects, pursuing undergraduate research through Rhodes’ Neuroscience Department, and committing to student organizations (e.g. RSG, RCDC, PAC). Success derives from recognizing and unlocking your true potential and applying consistent effort, no matter how small. With passion, dedication, and clear priorities, you can achieve everything you set your mind to. I'm here to guide you in overcoming obstacles and fostering self-progress, helping you achieve the self you want to become, step by step!

I am a senior majoring in neuroscience and minoring in chemistry from Gloucester, VA. Being on the pre-med track, I have taken a variety of STEM classes (BIO 130, 140; CHEM 120, NEURO 270, etc., and their corresponding labs), as well as courses such as HUM 101, 102; SPAN 102, 201; and PSYCH 150. Being a member of Rhodes College Dance Company (RCDC), and a volunteer at St. Jude, I have learned how to perfect time management so that I am able to spend time doing things I enjoy outside of academics. During my freshman year, I learned that college took a little time to adjust; therefore, when meeting with me I will share strategies with you to better prepare for possible challenges in the academic year. My philosophy as a peer academic coach is to utilize teamwork between myself and students to figure out what works best for them, as my ideas may not work for everyone. I look forward to meeting with you!
