How do I get priority status?
A student can receive priority status by attending an Internship Information Session. These sessions typically happen in February for fall internships and September for spring internships. If you cannot make one of the scheduled sessions, reach out to internships@rhodes.edu to schedule an individual meeting so you can still receive priority status.
How many credits should I apply for?
Typically, 1 or 2 credits is an internship with no F11 credit and no class component. 3 or 4 credits gets you an F11 credit and you must attend an internship class. There is no difference between 1 versus 2 credits or 3 versus 4 credits. That choice is up to you. Many students who are taking 4 classes + an internship will choose 3 credits because that puts them at 19 credits total instead of 20 which counts as an overload (you would have to petition for an overload and pay extra tuition).
I want to put internships from 2 different departments on my list. Do I meet with both department contacts?
No. You only need to meet with the professor contact in the department of your first choice internship pick.
I'm not interested in any of the pre-approved sites but still need an internship. What do I do?
You can find and propose your own internship. The internship must relate to the department under which you are filing for credit. Another option is to meet with the department internship contact to discuss other options.
You do not need to limit yourself to one department. Students are free to explore all sites regardless of department.
Can I get paid for my academic internship?
Yes! Rhodes College now allows Academic Internships to be paid. Please be aware, however, that many of our internship partners are small Non Profit organizations and are not able to pay.
