Church Health, The Well Intern: The Well is a wellness and prevention program for children ages 6 weeks to 12 years old. Interns will provide direct and indirect developmentally appropriate support to children, promote a physically and emotionally safe play and learning environment for children, function as a valuable member of a team-focused work environment, and experience diverse opportunities for professional development. - Dress for Success: Program Volunteer: Assist with the Women N Transformation (WNT) or Professional Women’s Group (PWG) programs. The WNT program, presented by FedEx, includes job preparation and career advancement training. In this program, unemployed and under-employed clients learn job search skills, basic job skills, and build self-confidence. PWG provides clients who have gained employment a place to share, grow, and network with other women who have also made the transition into the workforce. Monthly classes include community professionals that teach basic life and work skills.

Knowledge Quest Extended Learning Academy Intern: The Intern will assist with program implementation of youth development, educational enrichment, and recreational activities that support intellectual, emotional, and character development.

The RITI team strives to build community based on love and respect, welcome all as an expression of faith, and give hope and hospitality in a safe environment. During the months of November - March, Community Engagement Interns are expected to fill at least two 4pm-6pm shifts each week assisting with Congregational Shelter pick-up in downtown Memphis in addition to their ongoing work at Room in the Inn's main campus: 409 Ayers Street. Other main duties: Participate in each RITI program to build relationships with guests, learning common needs and understanding the overall mission and work of RITI. Review current community resource materials within RITI. Interview staff and guests to determine highest priority needs. Research untapped community resources. Determine the limits of local resources and research creative ways RITI can help fill the gaps with volunteers.
- Room in the Inn – Family Inn: Room in the Inn - Memphis shelters those experiencing homelessness in a safe environment of hospitality. In our Family Inn unsheltered families with children stay in private rooms with 3 meals a day. The staff coordinates available resources and assists with the guests' housing, employment, and other goals.
Our Family Inn shifts are Monday-Friday 7am-3pm with flexible scheduling available. Family Inn Interns work with the Family Inn Director and Guest Advocate to guide guests through their case management plan to achieve the goals of stable childcare, employment, and housing. Some students will also assist with programs (group meetings, afterschool tutoring, or a topic in their interest of benefit to the guests). The Intern is compassionate, and is dedicated in assessing the strengths and needs of those experiencing homelessness with proven ability to build rapport. The intern will gain exposure to community resources and will have direct client interaction and building relationships. - Room in the Inn – Volunteer Services: Participate in each RITI program to build relationships with guests, learning common needs and resources, and understanding the overall mission and work of RITI. Assist in finding creative ways to incorporate volunteers into RITI’s daily life and special project needs. Monitor Volunteer Odyssey (GivePulse) platform by verifying each new volunteer completes an application, reviews handbook and received appropriate communication in a timely manner. - Shelby County Division of Community Services Outreach Specialist: This position is responsible for attending marketing and outreach events to increase awareness and utilization of programs within the Division of Community Services (DCS).
- Stand for Children: Stand TN will have several opportunities for fellows. They will assist in development of modules for the Shelby County Voter Academy. Supporting efforts with our Breaking the School to Prison Pipeline Task Force. - The Works Inc, General Intern - The Works, Inc. is searching for an intern who will assist in neighborhood innovation work alongside existing community partners to implement national best practices at the local level. The intern needs to be proficient in the Microsoft Office suite of products, and comfortable working in an office or an urban neighborhood setting. No experience in community development is required, but a successful candidate will have a strong interest in helping others and improving underserved communities. Potential tasks could include community engagement startup and rollout, conducting regular windshield surveys to monitor property conditions, aligning family resources, researching best practices, designing process implementation plans, and/or helping to develop internal systems to scale up neighborhood innovation work.

In addition, a student must complete a short petition, not to exceed 300 words, explaining why you wish to undertake an internship, how it fits with the goals of the Rhodes Vision, and how it will complement your academic study of art; the petition is submitted to the faculty but does not need to be submitted to Career Services. - Anna Wunderlich Art Consultation: Intern will work closely with lead art advisor to help clients and designers with art selection and placement, gaining exposure to the practicalities of the art world. Intern will be involved in cataloguing artists and galleries of interest both in a new web-based gallery management software, ArtCloud, and in hard copies for client collections. Intern will also assist with market research through art show and event attendance, help with installations/hanging/framing selection, work on social media initiatives, and coordinate exhibitions.

- Brooks Museum, School Programs Intern: Under the general direction of the School Programs Coordinator, the school programs intern supports the work of the Brooks Museum’s school programs; assists in program evaluation of the Education programs; maintains art studio space; assists teaching artists in program delivery; and serves as a member of the dynamic Education Department team. This internship is for the Fall Semester and requires 8-10 hours a week (working primarily Wednesday-Friday). - Metal Museum, Archives Intern: Interns will assist the Collections and Exhibitions department in archiving and digitizing the institutional history of the Museum. - Memphis Public Library and Information Center, Social Media Specialist: The student will work in the Library’s Marketing Department under the guidance and supervision of the Library’s Public Relations Supervisor. Duties will include developing the social media plan, contributing to the development of Library social media policies and procedures, and ultimately launching the Library’s marketing efforts through Twitter. - Christ Community Clinical Support Extern: CCHS provides primary healthcare to the underserved through distinctively Christian service. This clinical support internship is ideal for humble students pursuing an advanced degree in the health professions, who also have a heart for the oppressed. The key objectives of the internship are: 1) learn the practical basics of the medical or dental support role, 2) demonstrate competence with patient intake, including vitals and screening tools, 3) complete a patient-facing improvement/service project. This externship requires HIPAA training, COVID precautions, drug/background check (upon request), and personal transportation. Typical locations are the Broad, Hickory Hill, or Raleigh clinics. Interns are expected to work two shifts per week in clinic (4hrs per shift, either AM or PM) during normal business hours. Interns will have opportunities to shadow provider-patient encounters and tour clinic neighborhoods. - LifeDoc, Medical Assistant Clinical Intern – Intern will learn and assist with both administrative and clinical tasks needed to care for patients. This intern will help support the Provider by learning clinical terms with Provider instructions, helping/learning to get vital signs, learn about the administration of meds and gather patient history to ensure the patient is receiving quality care and service. Bilingual in English and Spanish is preferred, but not required.
- Memphis Zoo, Animal Husbandry Intern: Students will be involved in the daily husbandry of the endangered dusky gopher frog and Louisiana pine snake colonies. These colonies are part of ongoing reintroduction programs in which offspring are released back into protected habitat in the spring/summer. Students will be assigned basic husbandry tasks that include cleaning/disinfecting animal enclosures, monitoring water quality and performing necessary water changes, observing animal behavior for signs of illness or stress, etc. Students may also be asked to assist in various research protocols that require safe handling techniques while performing procedures such as ultrasounding, tagging, weight/length measurements, etc.
Methodist University Hospital Intern (Juniors and Seniors only): Interns will participate in independent patient rounds using a standardized rounding tool. The tool will script questions for patients and family about various aspects of their care and hospital stay. Interns will attend multidisciplinary internal medicine residency conferences as part of their assigned time each week. Interns will be challenged to reflect on their interactions with hospitalized patients and the impact of social determinants on their overall health status. Further, interns will engage in High Reliability Organization tones and tools to better understand how patient quality and safety is tied to patient experience.
Designed for pre-med and pre-nursing students, prior shadowing is required. - MoSH LNC Backyard Wildlife Intern: Lichterman Nature Center is looking for ambitious, dedicated and passionate individuals looking to gain experience caring for and interpreting native animals. Interns work under the supervision of the Backyard Wildlife Curator and Assistant Curator to learn the daily animal care of captive wildlife including mammals, reptiles, amphibians, insects, and fish. Interns will also get the opportunity to design and implement a nature related project and gain knowledge of native plants and animals.

- Dixon Gallery and Gardens: The Dixon Gallery and Gardens internship will provide the student with an introduction to standard museum practice, providing professional experience and useful skills for future museum employment and further study to the field. Interns will assist the curator with researching documentation, bibliography and archives related to exhibitions including art, social history, literature and music.
- Facing History and Ourselves: This intern will help pilot Facing History Together at Rhodes College. Facing History Together is a public engagement campaign designed to foster civil discourse and help students understand the fragility of democracy. Additionally, Facing History Together Rhodes will build a community of college students who are passionate about social justice, education, equality, and equity. The student intern will: help with the formation and promotion of the Facing History Together group on campus, garner the support of campus stakeholders, assist in identifying Facing History alumni on campus, organize logistics for events and publicize meetings, and collaborate with Facing History staff to implement strategic initiative and assist with administrative duties.
- Memphis Heritage: Assist with the many preservation activities of this non-profit educational and charitable organization. Examples of projects may include: writing for The Keystone (a publication that serves as the voice of the Memphis Preservation Community); assisting with the MHI Annual Preservation Awards; assisting with the Architectural Auction; assisting with the Annual Preservation Series (an educational series encompassing topics of Memphis historic architecture and neighborhoods).
- Memphis/Shelby County Public Libraries: The internship provides training in processing manuscript collections (analyzing and organizing materials, preservation of material, and preparation of a computer-generated guide to the collection). At the end of the semester, the intern′s project will be bound and entered in the Library′s catalog, providing a permanent record of the student′s work.
- Metal Museum, Archives Intern: Interns will assist the Collections and Exhibitions department in archiving and digitizing the institutional history of the Museum. Interns will be trained in and will use the database management system PastPerfect as they work to make historic records accessible to staff and the public. They will also learn day-to-day museum practices including object handling and will have the opportunity to assist with an exhibition change.
- MoSH: The intern selects a research topic within an area of interest for research. The intern is assigned a collection of objects to describe in detail. The intern is then requested to produce a "user catalogue" consisting of a background paper and detailed descriptions of the objects. The intern is also encouraged to participate in a field-collecting trip and to interact with the administration, exhibits, and education departments.
- Shelby County Archives: The Shelby County Archives protects, preserves, and provides public access to the permanent historical records of Shelby County Government. Interns will work on processing records, particularly those of the Shelby County Chancery Court during the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Processing includes humidification, flattening, foldering, indexing, and boxing of the records, so as to increase their accessibility to researchers. Chancery Court deals with cases of equity, which often involves private property, commercial property, estates, and possibly slaves.
- Shelby County Attorney’s Office: The intern will be shadowing attorneys to scheduled court hearings and accompany an attorney to different selected Board and Committee Meetings. A Way Out, Graphic & Film Design Internship: A Way Out (AWO) has been combatting pornography and human trafficking for 30 years in the Mid-South region. We have a two-year residential program for women who have been trapped in the sex industry (sex trafficking) and also conduct outreach to venues known for sexual exploitation twice per month. Lastly, we advocate at the state and local level for policy and laws to regulate human trafficking and pornography. The ministry currently owns one safe home (called Agape House) with the capacity to house five (5) sex trafficking survivors while they are in the residential program. The program will expand to include a rural location being built on over 75 acres where women will complete Phase Two of the program. Room in the Inn – Creative Assistant: Room in the Inn - Memphis shelters those experiencing homelessness in a safe environment of hospitality. In our Family Inn unsheltered families with children stay in private rooms with 3 meals a day. The staff coordinates available resources and assists with the guests' housing, employment, and other goals.
Duties include participating in each RITI program to build relationships with guests, learning common needs and resources, and understanding the overall mission and work of RITI. Assisting in finding creative ways to share our mission and extend our outreach. Assisting in collecting guest/volunteer/staff stories, photos, and video, and work with Creative Director to plan and design new content for social media and website, analyze insights, and build audience. Answering phone calls to learn about common community needs and connect with local resources. Determining the limits of local resources and research creative ways RITI can help fill the gaps. - St. Jude Quality of Life/Palliative Care Intern: The Quality of Life/Palliative Care internship will provide a qualified Senior exposure to palliative, end-of-life and bereavement care for patients and families at St. Jude. The intern will work with the bereavement coordinator, a psychologist on the Quality of Life team, and will have the opportunity to interface with pediatric palliative care practitioners and to work collaboratively with multiple departments. Most of the work of the intern will be project focused within the bereavement program and the intern will have the opportunity to interface with bereaved families and participate in research, if desired. JUICE Orange Mound: Our organization is looking for dynamic, energetic interns who are eager to learn about our community-based work and assist our nonprofit in strengthening our existing programming. Memphis & Shelby County Office of Re-entry: GED teachers help adult learners acquire the education that they may have previously missed or been denied. By covering five core subjects through lesson plans and teaching them in the classroom, a GED teacher helps older students pass the government-created GED tests.

Memphis & Shelby County Office of Sustainability & Resilience Intern: Our office is seeking an intern to assist with the development of the Mid-South Regional Climate Action Plan. Tasks may include collecting an inputting data into the greenhouse gas (GHG) inventory, researching best practices/case studies on goals and recommendations to reduce GHG emissions in the metro area, and assisting with logistics for consortium and public meetings, taking notes at meetings, and working on graphics, pictures, layout, etc. for the final plan document. Our office is housed within the Memphis and Shelby County Division of Planning and Development and interns will have the chance to be exposed to various urban and regional planning projects.

Memphis Area Women’s Council: The Memphis Area Women’s Council offers interns opportunity to participate in planning and carrying out strategic actions to raise community awareness and create community change; assist with Council meeting and board meetings; carryout research to bolster and inform action strategies; and craft optimum outreach on Council issues using social media and other technology including PowerPoint and web sites.

Memphis Farmers Market, Operations Coordinator Intern: Market Information Table; management of existing operations, educates volunteers on any new procedures and policies. Farm and facility visits and with Executive Director and members of the Board of Directors for the purpose of vendor engagement and market promotions. Memphis River Parks Intern: The Memphis River Parks Partnership considers the riverfront as a series of connected and complementary parks and facilities. Just as the parks connect to one another, so should the riverfront connect with downtown and underinvested neighborhoods adjacent to downtown. The partnership seeks to encourage the flow of people between downtown and the riverfront and to better connect with MLK Park, South Memphis and Uptown. Connection could be physical infrastructure, or programming that builds ownership, stewardship or expands opportunity. There are three potential internship fellowship opportunities: Transportation/connectivity, community engagement, place-related equity issues, racial equity, and/or health equity issues related to parks and green spaces in Memphis; Research and evaluation, developing measurement tools and processes, and possibly coordinating surveyors; Environmental science and education, developing Saturday science workshop for children and families.

The RITI team strives to build community based on love and respect, welcome all as an expression of faith, and give hope and hospitality in a safe environment. Interns should enter their first day with an openness to becoming a part of this community, treating guests with dignity and responding to challenges with a focus on hospitality. Room in the Inn – Family Inn: Room in the Inn - Memphis shelters those experiencing homelessness in a safe environment of hospitality. In our Family Inn unsheltered families with children stay in private rooms with 3 meals a day. The staff coordinates available resources and assists with the guests' housing, employment, and other goals.
Our Family Inn shifts are Monday-Friday 7am-3pm with flexible scheduling available. Family Inn Interns work with the Family Inn Director and Guest Advocate to guide guests through their case management plan to achieve the goals of stable childcare, employment, and housing. Some students will also assist with programs (group meetings, afterschool tutoring, or a topic in their interest of benefit to the guests). The Intern is compassionate, and is dedicated in assessing the strengths and needs of those experiencing homelessness with proven ability to build rapport. The intern will gain exposure to community resources and will have direct client interaction and building relationships. -
Room in the Inn – Volunteer Services: Participate in each RITI program to build relationships with guests, learning common needs and resources, and understanding the overall mission and work of RITI. Assist in finding creative ways to incorporate volunteers into RITI’s daily life and special project needs. Monitor Volunteer Odyssey (GivePulse) platform by verifying each new volunteer completes an application, reviews handbook and received appropriate communication in a timely manner. SMA utilizes music with an intense focus on the rich legacy and tradition of Stax Records. Interns will develop in one or all of the following areas: culture and music research, youth development, and/or strategic marketing and community engagement.
- The Works Inc, General Intern - The Works, Inc. is searching for an intern who will assist in neighborhood innovation work alongside existing community partners to implement national best practices at the local level. The intern needs to be proficient in the Microsoft Office suite of products, and comfortable working in an office or an urban neighborhood setting. No experience in community development is required, but a successful candidate will have a strong interest in helping others and improving underserved communities. Potential tasks could include community engagement startup and rollout, conducting regular windshield surveys to monitor property conditions, aligning family resources, researching best practices, designing process implementation plans, and/or helping to develop internal systems to scale up neighborhood innovation work.
- Thistle & Bee, Communication & Sales Intern: The intern will be responsible for helping promote the organization in the community, collect news, updates and video from all aspects of Thistle & Bee to create consistent social media presence and a quarterly E-newsletter. Will assist with website maintenance, design projects, and other projects as available. This position may also include media and alumni outreach and writing press releases for events. Sales responsibilities include leading direct sales events and supporting production in busy seasons. Occasional weekends required, to be scheduled in advance. Must complete a background check.
- True Story Pictures, Communications Intern: Reframe the “resources” section of our website to speak to national audiences. Add, update, and manage listings for national, regional, state, and local agencies, providers, and nonprofit organizations that work in the context of juvenile justice, youth and families, and criminal justice reform. Work with partners like the National Juvenile Justice Network to identify gaps within regions of particular interest. Transcribe audio interviews with individuals who’ve had personal contact with the juvenile justice system. Post interviews and photos in the “stories” section of website. Provide outreach coordination and scheduling support to individuals who want to record their stories. Manage social media content. Identify, schedule and share articles of interest on our FB and Twitter pages. Post project news and notices when new stories have been added to website. Promote events and spur audience engagement. Track social media analytics with monthly reports (likes/followers, mentions, top posts, profile visits, impressions).
- UrbanArt Commission Intern: The mission of UAC is to enhance and elevate the quality of life in Memphis and Shelby County by promoting and facilitating public art and urban design. Responsibilities include administrative duties, assisting in reach and development projects, and supporting advocacy efforts.
- Volunteer Odyssey, Volunteer Engagement Intern: The Volunteer Engagement Intern role is at the core of Volunteer Odyssey’s mission. Volunteer Odyssey meets community needs through volunteerism and works with local nonprofits to support their volunteer programs. We can better uplift these nonprofits and our city as whole when we galvanize more volunteers. This internship role will work to recruit and engage volunteers throughout Memphis - whether that be students, local organizations, or community groups. This role will document volunteer experiences - working directly with our individual volunteers throughout the community and visiting nonprofits throughout the city to interview and photograph volunteers inaction. This internship will entail taking tasks and direction from their manager and also allows for autonomy in various projects and decision making.
